There is this place in Surat, Gujarat where you can get the most amazing tomato pakode (fried tomato appetizer). Staying in Mumbai, I am used to batata wada (fried potato appetizer), Kanda bhaji (fried onion appetizer) and samosa. And like most Mumbaikar I love to eat them alot.
So when I went to meet my sister in Surat, she took me to this place saying you have to try this. Near the Dhumas beach there is a shed like place which sells a lot of different types of fried food. If you type – Dhumas,Langar Circle – in maps you will reach there.

This place is usually so packed in evenings or on weekends. Luckily, I went there on a weekday afternoon. Very few people were there. So I asked if I can take few photos of the cooking area. The people working there were so nice they actually left what they were doing so I could take uninterrupted photos.d16ae88b-e7f1-4d2f-aae2-1a1a9f1ca2dd.jpeg

While I was there, they were making fresh batch of tomato pakode. They cut slices of tomato on it they put a chilly paste (chilly, coriander and very little lemon). Then dip it in batter and fry. And while there are variety of pakode there this one is really my favorite.

It is served with this delicious curd based dip with bits of chilly in it. The dip is really different not sweet or spicy and perfectly complements the fried item. Along with that they give sliced onion and chilly. To enhance the taste.

Try it out.

Happy munching!
